"I understand a mighty comfort of all the works of our Lord God that are yet to come. There is a Deed the which the blessed Trinity shall do in the last Day....And the cause why He willeth that we know [this Deed shall be], is for that He would have us the more eased in our soul and [the more] set at peace in love—leaving the beholding of all troublous things that might keep us back from true enjoying of Him. This is that Great Deed ordained of our Lord God from without beginning, treasured and hid in His blessed breast, only known to Himself: by which He shall make all things well."
Julian of Norwich (Ch. 32)
God doesn't want us to be afraid of the future. He doesn't want us to fear that there is any kind of future judgment or punishment. He wants us to be comforted and at peace, and He sets our mind and soul at ease by telling us that He will do a Great Deed at the last day and make all things well. He has had this Great Deed treasured in His heart from before time began. He has always known that He would wrap up everything perfectly for us all. There has never been any doubt about that good happy ending! So there is nothing to fear in the ultimate future. There is only hope in the ultimate future, because God is already in the future and He has promised 'all shall be well!'
"I am God, and there is no one like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things which have not been done, saying, 'My plan will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure.'"
Isaiah 46:9-10 (NASB)
A Prayer: Thank You that we have nothing to fear in the future, and we have everything to hope for!
